Naked, Integrated and Situated models

Abstract

I propose to discuss some examples of concrete models (such as globes or wind galleries). Models are individuated cognitively by their inferential capability – a design feature of models. Naked, Integrated and Situated models are distinguished by some of their syntactic features, that may integrate self-referential tokens, i.e. their embedding in an oriented space; under the control of the intentions of the modelers. There is more to model taxonomy than simply representation; situatedness is an important dimension for classification. We shall bring homes lessons from situated models in order to assess the cognitive advantages some of them provide (a-perspectivality, orientability).
